How to protect your skin this summer

As we are in summer, it's important to start thinking about sun protection for ourselves and our loved ones. After all, the sun's harmful UV rays can cause serious damage to our skin and increase the risk of skin cancer.

But with so many different sunscreens, sunblocks, and other sun protection products on the market, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out which one is best for you.  Here's a quick rundown on suncare to help you make an informed decision.

First and foremost, it's important to understand the difference between sunscreen and sunblock. Sunscreen works by absorbing UV rays, while sunblock works by physically blocking them.  Both can be effective at protecting your skin, but sunblock tends to be a little more reliable since it doesn't wash off as easily and is less likely to rub off on clothes.

When it comes to choosing a sun protection product, the most important factor is the SPF (sun protection factor). The higher the SPF, the more protection it provides. A general rule of thumb is to use an SPF of 30 or higher, especially if you have fair skin or are planning to be out in the sun for an extended period of time.

It's also important to pay attention to the ingredients in your sun protection product.  Look for ones that contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, as these are known to be effective at blocking UV rays. Avoid products with oxybenzone and octinoxate, as they have been shown to have negative effects on the environment and can potentially disrupt hormones.

Finally, don't forget to apply your sun protection product liberally and frequently. It's recommended to apply sunscreen every two hours, or immediately after swimming or sweating. And don't forget to protect your lips with a lip balm that has an SPF of at least 15.

So, there you have it – a quick rundown on suncare to help you and your loved ones stay protected this summer. Stay safe out there, and don't forget to slop on the sunscreen!
